Federation of Cooperatives in Mindanao (FEDCO) is now selling Grade A well fermented cacao beans. The cacao beans are produce of FEDCO’s members and other small growers in Davao Region.
Aside from serving as a marketing arm to its member cooperatives, the Federation also supervises the production of the cacao beans from its planting up to the harvesting process. Most of the growers underwent on a five-month intensive hands-on training on cacao production. The training was a joint-project provided by FEDCO and ACDI/VOCA (an NGO founded by USDA).
After consolidating wet cacao beans from growers, FEDCO will then, ferment, dry and process the beans in its post harvest facilities located in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte. The post harvest processing is done by FEDCO’s personnel who are trained to be Cacao Masters.
FEDCO has been in the operation of exporting Agri products mainly Cavendish Bananas since 1999. Best agricultural practices were applied by the Federation to sustain and keep up with the high global demands of markets such as Japan, China and Middle East countries. Same as for the cacao, best practices are implemented for the local and export markets.
The cacao project of FEDCO started in year 2011. FEDCO is now making its name in the cacao industry.
